Paris is Getting Taller

High-rise buildings are banned by local law within the boundaries of the city of Paris itself. But, by 2012, a futuristic and eco-friendly tower, Le Phare is to be constructed in the business district of La Défense. Le Phare is part of a plan to revive La Défense, an area of modest office buildings, built between 1958 and 1989. The architect Thom Mayne is the name behind the project.

Madeleine Vionnete at Les Arts Decoratifs

Madeleine Vionnete donated over 100 of her designs to the Les Arts Decoratifs Institute in 1952 before her death. The dresses are now being restored at the Institute for an exhibition in Paris. The challenge is not only to turn back time but to make sure the garment's weight is evenly supported. The curator of the exhibition, Pamela Golbin explained "The new linings are attached in such a way that, if a piece cracks, it's the new bit that gives and not the original fabric."
